This flavorful cranberry apple sauce recipe will become a family favorite
Even though we are skipping the big family Thanksgiving this year, we aren’t skipping the cranberry sauce. I added some fresh cranberries to my Misfits box for the week, and I’ve been looking forward to making my favorite cranberry sauce. Just sweet enough, just sour enough with a light spicy flavor. It’s perfect with turkey! Definitely worth the little bit of time it takes to throw together. And since we’ll probably have leftovers since it’s just 4 of us for dinner, we’ll be able to freeze the extra sauce to enjoy later. It’s also delicious with ham.

And leftovers……I’m dreaming of a turkey sandwich on sourdough bread with loads of lettuce, some good salt and a big dollop of this cranberry apple sauce. YUM.

Cranberry Apple Sauce
This sweet & spicy sauce is the perfect supporting actor to turkey or ham. You may even win over some non-cranberry folks!

Course Side Dish
Ingredients
- 2 cups fresh cranberries
- 2 apples (peeled, cored, and chopped)
- ¾ cup organic cane sugar
- ½ cup water or juice (cranberry or apple)
- zest and juice of one orange
- 1 or 2 cinnamon sticks
- 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
- 1 teaspoon grass-fed beef gelatin (optional)
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients except gelatin (if using) in saucepan. Bring to boil, reduce heat and simmer for 20-30 minutes. Stir in gelatin and allow to simmer for a a few more minutes. Remove from heat. Serve immediately or store in refrigerator and bring to room temperature before serving. You can also freeze the cranberry sauce for up to three months.
- The gelatin helps to firm up the sauce, though it will thicken as it cools. We like a little thicker sauce, and the gelatin makes that happen. It does not effect the flavor, use it based on your preference.
